The Lost Sheep - Alfred Usher Soord

Painting depicting the parable of the Lost Sheep - the shepherd reaches down from a precarious cliff face to reach his lamb

Geoff Wheaton SJ leads us through a meditation on this painting of the lost sheep by Alfred Usher Soord.

The shepherd is prepared to go to any lengths to save the animal. His balance is precarious. Has he reached out too far? The eyes of the lamb are totally focused on the face of the shepherd. ... The lamb must decide, 'do I want the shepherd to grab me and haul me back to safety or not? It's my choice.'
