The Conference Room

The Conference Room at St Beuno's

This is a place of beginnings.

A place where things start.

A place from which we set off.

There can be an awkward silence when new people gather in this room on the eve of beginning a retreat. It can feel socially awkward. I like to think it is slightly awkward because we are bursting with curiosity and yet it isn’t yet the time and place to ask:

Why have you come here?

What in your life have you come to explore here in the silence?

Who is your God?

All of this is to come. But first, we gather in silence.

As we gather here today, this is also a place of beginnings.

A place where things start.

A place from which we set off where we meet in comfortable silence when people who know each other gather in this room, as we do now, to prepare for the work of this house- to be with God in the stillness, to be ready for the stories of those who travel here and to wait on what God may say in response.

God our Father,

Through your goodness you have given us this house.

We give thanks for all the blessings and graces received here, and pray in confident trust in your providence for the future.  We ask you to protect and guide those who live, work and pray here.  May they find peace, generosity and welcome and depart enriched by your grace.

Bless this place with your presence and look kindly on all who come here,

In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen
