... in the sign of peace

A woman in church

While livestreaming Mass at home one of the things I missed most, apart from being able to go to communion, was the sign of peace. My family developed the habit of texting each other after their Mass instead, which was a nice gesture.

When I went back to church, I felt the absence of the sign of peace again. However, I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that the congregation have decided to take their own measures. The priest no longer says the words which prompt the congregation to offer each other the sign of peace, but in the momentary pause, we are now turning to one another with smiles (behind masks) and nods. I find this heartwarming in a time when opportunities for meaningful human contact are limited and we are wearing face coverings, we are still finding ways to wish others the Peace of Christ.
